creating purposeful learning spaces with a trusted partner half a world away.

The foundation for Raha International School’s balanced and academically challenging curriculum is set inside its classrooms —with innovative furniture in colourways that support, rather than dominate the inspired teaching and engaging child-initiated learning.

To satisfy the exceptionally high student demand, this IB World School opened its second campus in September 2020—Raha International Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi—to cater for up to 3,000 new students from kindergarten to Grade 12.

From the outset, Principal Nicola Neethling knew she wanted to partner with Furnware to furnish all three phases of their new building. With previous experience in teaching and leading schools in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, Nicola knew first-hand of Furnware’s quality and innovation in creating world-class learning spaces.
Furnware’s Learning Space Design Specialist Simone Baldwin formed a successful partnership with Nicola, collaborating with the leadership team to fulfill their furniture needs at each phase while minimising the logistical disruptions posed by COVID-19.

Despite the pandemic and remote consultations with Simone, the team at Raha leaned into Furnware’s collaborative approach as it was made easier with an advanced learning spaces design tool. The school could take immersive 3D walk-throughs of the proposed plans, allowing the team to visualise the spaces in their chosen furniture and colourways.

Take a closer look at Raha International Khalifa City’s stunning learning spaces in this video.

"We really care about student voice, student choice, and student ownership. So, we wanted to create open spaces, where students could move around freely. We went for a whole lot of different types of spaces and furniture to create that calm environment. We have had such an incredible experience partnering with Furnware. It was an easy and successful partnership."

Nicola Neethling - Principal, Raha International Khalifa City

Inspiring learning spaces are all about balance, Simone and the team at Raha combined flexible and modular furniture with purposeful use of colour to create a space where the teaching and learning can shine.
Nicola is delighted with the result – spaces that feature a neutral colour palette along with a thoughtful combination of high tables, low tables, soft furnishings, and whiteboard tables. The whole team at Khalifa City Campus is delighted with their new spaces and flexible furniture they have created to accommodate varying needs for collaborative, dynamic, or focused study.
