The success of a new learning environment is now inspiring the refurbishment of other learning pods at the Canadian International School in Singapore. Students were involved in the original design process from the start, making it a valued and highly desired space within their growing school.

The school had a large, open space that wasn’t realising its full potential, so was earmarked to become a new Science, Technology, Entrepreneurship, Arts and Maths (STEAM) Centre.

The school wanted to create a flexible, dynamic learning environment where students would embrace the opportunity to collaborate, present and socialise.

They started their journey with a detailed proposal within the Student Council’s Strategic Plan. Elements were woven into the design and the leadership team worked alongside students and teachers to select the furniture.

Principal, Glen Radojkovich and his team chose Furnware from a number of suppliers shortlisted for the project. “We felt the quality of product and flexibility in design that Furnware provided, along with the support from the sales team, gave them the edge,” he said.

A cozy nook for collaborative work.

Especially encouraging for Glen were the numerous proposals by students and teachers to use the space for hosting events.

A key learning principle at the Canadian International School is that “Learning is optimised within stimulating and thoughtfully created environments.” With the new STEAM Centre students, teachers and the leadership team now have a multi-functional, well-utilised, engaging space that lives up to that principle.

The space is everything teachers and students hoped it would be.
