The Furnware brand dates back to 1934 when we opened a brand new business in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand and began crafting high quality wooden furniture.
Our first range of school chairs was developed in the 1950s at a time when education was structured and rigid – but we saw an opportunity to transform those learning environments with comfy, supportive furniture designed especially for kids.
Through constant innovation and dialogue with educators, we learned that traditional furniture wasn’t meeting the evolving needs of students.
Our pivotal chapter came in 2003, when we undertook a groundbreaking study that measured the posture, movement and behaviour over 20,000 students to better understand how their changing shapes and sizes impacted their learning over the course of their educational journey.
Our research completely reshaped how we designed and manufactured our furniture, with our design focus shifting to how our products could improve the learning experience for every student.
As a result, we developed the Bodyfurn range – which began with our world-first dynamic classroom chair that supports the body and has comfort at its core.
Today, our New Zealand team strives always, creating thoughtful designs to support learners and teachers everywhere. We’ve grown into a global leader in quality educational furniture, committed to enhancing comfort, focus and wellbeing in the classroom.
We work closely with schools to design environments that allow students to thrive, while also reflecting the unique character of each institution. Our commitment to quality, innovation, and genuine care is evident in everything we do, ensuring that the spaces we create stand the test of time.
